Time. Since the beginning of civilization, mankind has constructed creative methods to mark the passage of time. The sundial. The hour glass. Some will even argue the Great Pyramids of Egypt. All time tellers. All ancient. But it wasn’t until 1777 that a watchmaker in Europe famous for building clocks at Versailles created the most legendary watch movement in the world. He invented the first watch with an automatic mechanical drive. These innovative movements required no batteries and never needed to be manually wound. Only seven of these ultra-rare watches were ever made and we’ve only actually seen one surviving masterpiece in a watch history museum.
Inspired by history, our Stauer 1777 pays tribute to the horologicalmilestone of automatic watch movements. The 22-jeweledmovement oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour for accuracy to within seconds per day.
Aesthetically this timepiece is remarkable. The escapement and balance wheel are visible through the hardened crystal, and with an exhibition back, you can see into the heart of engineering and witness the automatic rotor which keeps the watch wound with a simple flick of the wrist. A shimmering black mother of pearl face really sets this timepiece apart, making it a true collector’s showpiece. This watch doesn’t just tell time, it celebrates it.
